Virulent Systemic Feline Calcivirus (VS-FCV) Found in 4 MI Cats.
October 13, 2007
MVMA was recently informed that there have been 4 confirmed cases of Virulent Systemic Feline
Calicivirus (VS-FCV) in Michigan. The most recent case was confirmed by the DCPAH and occurred
at Ingham County Animal Control in Mason, Michigan. MVMA contacted Jamie McAloon Lampman,
Director of the Ingham County Animal Control and was told that they had 1 positive cat that
was isolated. However 7 other cats were exposed and all were euthanized. At this point in
time, veterinarians need to be on the look out for this, but not in a panic mode. We will
update you with additional information as it becomes available.
