Past Patients of the Month
Jasmine and Naomi Monk
Jasmine Monk, a 6 year old robust retriever, came to our hospital on emergency on New Years Eve. She had been out running 2 days prior and yelped out during the run with Mrs. Monk. Nothing seemed wrong until the family noticed swelling in her chest area. Thank goodness the Monk's brought her in for an examination because we found a very rare fluid accumulating in the swelled areas. Our doctors immediately referred her to Michigan State University Veterinary Hospital for treatment. The team at MSU diagnosed the fluid and treated her surgically. Jasmine is a lucky girl - according to Dr. Allman at MSU, there are only 2 similar cases EVER described in the literature for veterinary medicine. By the way, Jasmine recovered and is doing great.

Naomi Monk is almost 15 years of age. She is incredible survivor of both Diabetes since 2008 and a soft tissue mass found in her liver in 2009. Her family gives her insulin injections twice daily and has kept her blood sugar levels almost normal. When she was diagnosed with a liver mass last Spring, her family followed our recommendations using a liver vitamin supplement (SAMe and Denamarin) and a low protein diet - K/D. We are happy to report that she has been symptom free for over a year! Naomi is a star in our eyes!
