Buster Klein

Buster was diagnosed with a disease called "Megaesophagus". This is a disorder characterized by an enlarged esophagus and loss of motility in the esophagus. Buster started to regurgitate his food and lose weight. An x-ray of his throat and esophagus confirmed the enlarged esophagus. This is a disease that can be congenital and found in puppies shortly after weaning, or acquired in adults in which case the cause is unknown.

Treatment entails feeding Buster a high calorie diet in an elevated to upright position for a full 15 to 30 minutes after every feeding. This standing up position allows the food to travel via gravity into Buddy's stomach, and helps to prevent regurgitation. Buster is also taking medication to help with motility and gastric irritation.

Buster has an incredible drive for life, and more importantly, dedicated owners who made this special high chair just for him. Buster and his owners are an inspiration for all of us at Richland Animal Hospital.
